Helen Wilkinson combines work as a consultant with other roles in the cultural and heritage sector. Until early 2022, she was Business Transformation Director for the Council for British Archaeology, where she has led a change programme to increase the organisation’s relevance and resilience, including digital transformation.
She was previously Assistant Director of the Association of Independent Museums, delivering a major programme of support for small and medium-sized heritage organisations. She has particular experience of supporting volunteer-led organisations, through governance support and with practical training, including supporting volunteer-led organisations to plan how to sustain their activities during the pandemic.
With 25 years’ experience in the museum sector, Helen has delivered consultancy projects focusing on policy development, professional development, evaluation, programme development and organisational change for organisations ranging from small, local museums to national UK bodies. She has extensive experience of grant-making and supporting leadership development. In 2014, she completed a PhD with the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester, examining the development of the UK museum sector in the late twentieth century.
