Digital Impact in Museums & Galleries

“We are delighted to be launching this new report with our friends at One Further, on behalf of the Art Fund and Museums Association. The pandemic saw for the first time in living memory museums and galleries having to close their doors. What followed was a time of great uncertainty but through it many cultural organisations embraced the pivot to digital. Art Fund and the Museums Association funded some incredible programmes of activity in this time, and earlier this year they commissioned CAO and One Further to undertake research into the impact of this work. Our research is summarised in this short report. We hope the sector finds it helpful.”

Lucy Shaw, Director, CAO

Introduction

On behalf of Art Fund and the Museums Association, One Further and Cultural Associates Oxford undertook a six-month study based on research and action learning.

The report explore four key areas

  • Achieving and measuring social impact

  • How online audiences might be identified, understood and diversified

  • The scope for scaling up and/or monetising content and experience-led digital projects

  • How funded digital projects might be supported in the future

This short report summarises our findings and conclusions and you can download it here.

Both the Art Fund and the Museums Association have posted the report on their websites with their reflections on its findings:
