Our Approach

Cultural Associates Oxford was founded on an intellectual understanding of, and passion for, entrepreneurial business thinking within the cultural sector. Through our professional practice, experience and research we know that museums, heritage, the arts and creative industries have a central role in society, and we are committed to supporting a thriving and buoyant cultural sector.

Although this is a time of great challenge and complexity, we see opportunities and are committed to enabling cultural and creative organisations to embrace change and introduce new ways of working and thinking.

Our Associates include cultural professionals, artists, academics, researchers and business consultants who have been working together for over five years to deliver transformational programmes with impact.

We will listen to your ideas and issues, carefully talking through the brief – questioning and even re-framing where appropriate, so we can ensure absolute clarity in our understanding of expectations and desired outcomes for your organisation, and everyone involved. Based on our analysis of this information, we will then create a bespoke team of experts from our pool of Associates, who will collaborate with you to design tailored work packages that meet your specific requirements.

Our Guiding Principles

We work to the following five key guiding principles that are core to our work, and our working relationships with our clients:

  • People centred. We put people and communities at the heart of everything we do. We listen to our clients and their stakeholders, monitor changing needs and requirements responding quickly, positively and effectively to build trust and understanding for all parties.

  • Collaboration and partnership. We work collaboratively and inclusively as a team and with our clients and partners, testing new ideas and exchanging information as much as we can to ensure that we continue to support delivery of priorities, whilst building on and developing new and ambitious partnerships.

  • Diversity, inclusion and relevance. We work equitably and ensure that our work listens to and reflects the creativity and diversity of our clients, their stakeholders, their community members, and ambitions as well as our team members and partners so that we matter more to people.

  • Wellbeing. We consider the wellbeing of our team and move at a pace that is comfortable while ambitious, and give consideration to the needs of our clients, their stakeholders and their communities.

  • Environmental sustainability. We are proactive in finding sustainable environmental solutions to the company’s operational needs, and to our team’s personal needs. We work with our clients, their staff, stakeholders and audiences to enable an understanding of what can be achieved and in recognition of the climate emergency.
